Dinant ’40 is a simulation game covering the first 4 days of this critical battle. Rommel’s crossing at Houx and his subsequent dash across France was immensely helpful to Guderian’s breakthrough at Sedan further south and the breaking of the French army.

The German 5th and 7th Panzer Divisions are pushing forward during bitter fighting near the village of Haut-le-Wastia. The French are trying to reestablish a defensive line while awaiting reinforcements and for their artillery to get into firing positions. Rommel, the German commander of the 7th Panzer Division, are anxious to seize the heights in front of him before the French are in position to coordinate a counter-attack. Two Pontoon Bridges are already constructed across the Meuse River, while a third bridge is being constructed on the east riverbank at Leffe, opposite the village of Bouvignes. This will allow the Germans to rush more units across the Meuse for a possible breakthrough and to keep their advance towards the objectives westward.
Dinant ’40 uses the same game system as Mark Simonitch’s Ardennes ’44 including the use of Traffic markers and DCBs for terrain effects. Most units are battalions with a sprinkling of regiments and companies. Each turn represents approximately 6 hours with 4 turns per day (Dawn, AM, PM, and Night).
Special rules include: Night Turns, Rommel, Bridging Units, Hilltops, and Tank Ratings.
